Have you ever wondered what the Maamturks Challenge is?

As part of on-going work with NUI Galway, we are hoping to promote the ethos of the Maamturks Challenge, and the story behind the event.

In our eyes, what makes this challenge truly unique is the fact it is completely organised by students every year, who take time out of their studies to give something back to the Irish hillwalking communities, and the local communities of Connemara.

43 years ago, Coiste Pobail an Mháma approached our club and asked for our expertise in running this event. Since then, our members, some of whom are still with us to this day, have never forgotten the original ethos behind this challenge.
