Maamurks Challenge 2021 Cancelled

Maamturks Challenge 2020 Cancelled
March 14, 2020

It is with deep regret that we are writing to you again this year with news of cancellation. Last year we wrote with the hope of seeing many of you at a Maamturks Challenge this year but unfortunately a decision has been made to not run the Maamturks Challenge again in 2021.

There had been more hope to organise a Challenge in the lead up to Christmas, but instead of improving since then, the situation unfortunately only worsened. Much thought and consideration has been given to options, but the prospects of improvement since then have not been promising enough to go ahead with any plans for a Challenge event in the Maamturks. There would be difficulties in practicalities of deciding any plans with the ongoing uncertainty, and in keeping with the general timing of the college semester.

We hope that all our participants will understand, our club, as per many, has been severely affected by the pandemic, with no permission to run events for many months now. We hope to get our club back up and running in a better state in the new academic year and we truly hope that we will indeed be back better than ever in 2022.

The Maamturks Challenge is a special event for us, and is the highlight of the club calendar. We always look forward to it and it is very saddening that we cannot commit to organising an event this year.

We wish you all the best, that you may remain safe and healthy, and hopefully many of us will return to the hills soon.

Kind Regards,

NUI Galway Mountaineering Club.
