It is with our deepest regret that this year’s Maamturks Challenge will be cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in Ireland. The university has been closed and all club events in NUI Galway are suspended until further notice. While the imposed government restrictions may be lifted ahead of the Challenge date of the 4th April, the national situation is constantly evolving and we feel it’s better to give advanced warning now of the cancellation. We wish to be mindful of not putting our participants or volunteers at any risk. Many students have already or will be in the next few days returning home, including many of our international students. We may not have enough time available or sufficient manpower to prepare for and run a safe event.
All participants will be refunded the cost of the event entry, please be patient as due to the number of participants it will take some time to process everything.
Alternatively, if you would consider donating your registration fee, or part there-of, we would very much appreciate the support. The club has already paid non-refundable deposits and will be charged fees for certain parts of the event. We run this event every year on a voluntary basis and if we could minimise any losses, it will help us to continue without as much of an impact. If you are registered to attend, please let us know by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) by the 25th March. Any excess amounts will be donated to the Galway Mountain Rescue Team and the Galway Radio Experimenters who support us every year for this event.
Once again you have our apologies, the Maamturks Challenge is a special event for us, and is the highlight of the club calendar. We were looking forward to it just as much as you, and are disappointed we won’t be able to meet you all on the 4th April. The Maamturks will be there for us next year however and we would love to see you at the 2021 Maamturks Challenge!
If you have any queries, please feel free to send us an email to email@example.com, we’ll get back to you when we can.
