We are making some changes to this year’s event based on feedback received from both participants and volunteers.
A review process has taken place of the method registration and it has been decided to continue to use the Eventbrite system using a first-come, first-served approach to keep it fair. However, some changes have been made:
There has been a large increase in the level of interest in the Challenge over the last few years and we would like to remind those interested in the Challenge this year of the requirements to participate. You must be able to navigate on your own and be prepared for all conditions including low visibility. While the weather has been kind for the last number of years, many may also remember years of difficult conditions and you should be prepared for the worst with appropriate gear.
The event also has a new starting time of 6am. Participants will be able to collect their walk card between 6am and 7am instead of between 5am and 7am. The improved timeliness with registration on the Friday evening reducing the time needed on Saturday morning and the process no longer takes two hours. The cut-off times at the Lake and the Col will remain the same and some of the benefits are that participants will depart in daylight, and last but by no means least, more sleep for our volunteers!
A new rule has also been added that professional guiding of any kind is not allowed in the Maamturks Challenge. All participants must be self-sufficient.
Please refer to the updated walk rules and participant information for more detail. We hope that we may see you on the 14th April!
